NEW PHOTOGRAPHER? WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BACKDROPS

Congratulations on starting your photography business.  I am of the assumption you have a studio and the necessary equipment to do studio photography, including lights and a backdrop stand.

We do sell backdrop stands, but please note these are sold separately from the backdrop itself.

First of all, when choosing a backdrop, you would need to decide whether you want it printed on PVC or Fabric.

ABOUT THE MATERIAL WE PRINT ON

Matt PVC (510 gsm)

Pros

  • Fully washable and solvent resistant
  • Can be used as a floor drop or a backdrop

Cons

  • Takes up a lot of space when storing, and should NEVER be folded
  • May scratch or stain
  • Darker and very colorful colored backdrops might have some glare

Banner weave Fabric

Pros

  • Machine washable
  • Hang dry or steam to remove wrinkles
  • Iron on the back if you need to
  • Easy to store and travel with
  • More options of designs as you can choose darker designs as well
Cons
  • Not easy to use as a floor drop as it moves around
  • Due to the nature of the material and printing the size might differ a few inches

WHAT SIZE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE

Rule of thumb for me also being a photographer.  Whatever size I have at the back is the same size that I use on the floor for a floor drop.

You can absolutely use PVC on the floor and Fabric at the back.  Here is an example of that.
